Haven’t seen Windows 7 yet? and want to experience its features without tending to install it? Some cool people at InfoWorld have done a series of 10 videos showcasing what’s new in Windows 7 Beta. Enjoy:

Windows 7 team has announced that there will be no Beta 2 for Windows 7. The next milestone for Windows 7 is RC1. There are just two steps more to the General Availability.

Following is a brief summary of Windows 7 Milestones:

The thing I like in Google Chrome is it’s simplicity. Yes it lags in some features but the way it works out is simply great. Its very light and simple. Google Chrome’s Japan team has made this interesting video advertisement. Nicely done, matches simplicity of the Chrome Web Browser:

I found this nice little application by Walter Higgins which is hosted on AWS (Amazon’s web services cloud) which generates a beautiful mosaic of your Twitter followers. You can embed the mosaic on your blog to increase its beauty and can also be a good treat for your followers. Here’s Jadoon’s Twitter followers mosaic:

It seems that Theora is getting alot of backing from the preachers of open web as Mozilla announced a 100,000$ grant to Theora’s development efforts to create an open video standard for the web. The grant will be managed by Wikimedia.

Just like everything moves towards centralization on the web, video will very soon be moving towards an Open Standard for the web. Theora is moving forward to become the Video standard on the web and with heavy weights like Mozilla backing the effort to replace the current video codecs on the web, almost all of which demand a licensing fee or come with restrictions, the development and refining of Theora to compete with MPEG-4 and WMV formats will just be a matter of time.

The battle of Mac vs. PC is not new and there have been many comparisons made in the past and will continue to be exploited to the extreme. But a decisive victory is nowhere to be seen. So what do you think? Does Mac sucks because of no reason? Or PC does suck in some areas?

imageHead a lot of stories about Apple and Microsoft war and want to know the truth? There is a film that you should watch!

“Pirates of Silicon Valley” (Released on June 20,1999) is a tale about origin of Apple and Microsoft with its true essence. It explains how Apple was founded and how Microsoft started their first project.

Film illustrates the story about Steve Jobs (Noah Wyle) and Bill Gates (Anthony Hall)…more focused on Job’s youth prior to the forming of Apple. This movie clearly explains about lives of these great people and its totally a ‘Geek’ life tale :P . Its one of my favorite movie and I recommend it to everyone :) .

Wikipedia has an interesting page about this film.

Originally named as McIntosh but later had to be renamed as Macintosh due to legal issues, today Mac has turned 25, Happy Birthday Mac! It was in January 24, 1984 when the first Macintosh went on sale. The specs at that time were revolutionary and they came with a heavy price tag:

The term “microblogging” was coined after the massive success of Twitter and even though Twitter has no visible revenue stream (is this the reason their servers go down every so often?) but if Twitter goes up for bidding then the very bidding war that will take place will defy and make us forget the current credit crunch and economic downturn.

%tags Since its public launch September last year, there is virtually no traffic on Google’s Knol. And this could be a classic example of a failed startup from a giant like Google and this is serious because it counts towards their share’s spiral downward from $600 one year ago to $300 now which is 50% down.

I have been thinking this in fact there has been alot of chatter on this but now as things are getting alot clearer, we have begun to see where Google is heading and why they hate Microsoft so much. Even though I have always loved Google for their innovation and started to think that Microsoft’s days are counted unless they evolve themselves.

With emergence of cloud computing, new business plans are being introduced. Moving the whole business online is the next thing people are looking at. But the whole business online halts work when the workers are offline and the whole business offline brings up geo and portability limitations. So Microsoft has a different approach that provides ultimate solution for the problem. The idea is having an offline part of business application that can do the work even if its offline and can be synchronized with the online services whenever needed. Definitely the innovation is Cloud Computing and Windows http://www.programmerfish.com/category/windows-azure-microsoft/’ target=’_blank’>Azure & Live Mesh are examples.

Setting up SMTP is sometimes not easy. Last year I was developing a photo social network (like Flickr) and we needed a registration confirmation system through email. The SMTP settings of the webhost on which we were testing really sucked so I dumped their SMTP and installed Google Apps for our domain. GMail provides easy SMTP access for sending emails and if you have configured your domain’s email at Google apps then I think its best to use for any email scenarios.

World’s most favorite gaming console “Nintendo Wii” has the most common and sophisticated input device, the “Wimote”. It is actually an infrared camera with 1024×768 resolution and built-in hardware blob tracking of up to 4 points at 100Hz. This makes it much more powerful than any PC Camera available today!

Do you know that Wiimote can be used for PC and programmed very easily in .Net? Yes! Jhonny Chung Lee of Carnegie Mellon University has made some WiimoteProjects that are awesome! Here are they:
