For the geeks out there, have you ever seen a tic-tac-toe game entirely based on HTML pages linked together to form a game map? Someone coded a complete tic-tac-toe based on just html and does not use any other processing/tool. It is just like clicking on links on browser. What’s fantastic about it is the way it computes the next move. No processing involved. Whenever you click for the next move, it send you to another page just link any hyperlink does.
Could hacking get any smarter? It is not exactly hacking as some would argue but it
is smart. Absolutely no doubt. Another variant of the infamous Koobface worm that infected Facebook users before has come up, dubbed as Koobface.GK which initiates itself by posting a Christmas video link on wall pages. With Christmas around the corner, the damage will be immense.
Facebook is probably not about expressing your hatred or dislike for anything at all. This
has to change if Facebook really cares for millions of it’s members who just cannot find a way to dislike some very weird things their acquaintances or friends share. If you have Firefox, you can do this with a simple Plugin now!
News pouring in that around 10pm, the following images were displayed to those trying
to access twitter. They are apparently claiming to be an Iranian Army. Twitter was down for a brief period but there was no official explanation from Twitter. The site is back up but the ripples this news has created have gone to the very end of the universe.
With the recent news of 32 million passwords getting hacked from a very popul
ar website, the need to ensure your security yourself is felt more then ever. One advice: If you don’t intend to use your OpenID or the website you want to register to is not offering it, then NEVER give them the same password as your email or Paypal, rather, always go for a unique password each time. So here’s the problem: You are registered on 20 different websites. Should we expect you to remember 20 different logins too? No. With the following trusted places to manage all your passwords, life has become a little easier.
It just took a few hours and concentrated effort to inject RockYou.com’s database with SQL to gain access to more then 32 million user IDs and passwords. So what? They were stored in PLAINT TEXT! OK so here’s a really horrible scenario: Suppose even 10% of the had matching Paypal passwords and the hacker only took $5 from every account. How much did he make? That’s simple math: 32,00,000*0.1*5 = $16million. The least we could do is make an example out of RockYou for this gross disaster they might have brought on their poor members.
Facebook has really gone insane. Not only this but they have really crossed the lines this time. Imagine your prospective employers or just some odd-random-guy searching on Google and your Facebook status or pics or any information you have on Facebook starts coming up in the search results without you even realizing that. Now this seems pretty scary but the truth is that it’s already happening and this time they did it quietly probably because of the uproar they had to face because of their lame actions. They played clever this time.
Or the question should rather be: Should there be any ethical screening before allowing an ad to run in front of millions? If not then what are the possible outcomes? I think pretty grim. So here’s this Ad that’s running on several big sites including Yahoo. Just a little reading revealed the scam.
Almost every blog uses Google Analytics to track their traffic and hence performance. There are several other popular services to track, maintain and analyze your traffic logs but
Google Analytics is by far the most trusted. Today, they have announced the much needed Asynchronous tracking script that optimizes the old script and significantly decreases load time of the page.
Do you want to sketch your town for Google Maps? Do you want it to be re
presentative of your country’s print on the world wide web? Google has announced ‘Model Your Town’ competition which, in my opinion, a community driven contribution to Google Maps. It will surely be a matter of pride for your model to be shown whenever someone browses your town on Google Maps.
You probably might be wondering what the title really means and if you haven’
t yet read the news about how UK police officers are on the hunt for past offenders (typically young blacks) not for interrogation or trying them in courts but only because their DNA’s will ‘enrich’ the national DNA database. You thought it was a joke? No, this is happening in the broad daylight while civil rights is fast asleep. Sorry but I can’t hold back but be biased.
Bigger players are finally entering the Android apps market in hordes and probably the
re’s a strong reason for that. When it comes to Twitter clients for Smart phones, Seesmic is definitely a well known name. Today they have announced their Twitter client for Android phones.
The title seems pretty explanatory after all and I don’t need to put in some more words explaining what it really means. Let’s start with the need of viewing the mobile vers
ion of a website? Well, there can be several reasons for that. Developers usually have to be sure that their site is loading right in the mobile devices or else they’re losing thousands or possibly millions of smartphone users that they otherwise might have got. We usually have to make sure that our mobile version is fast, simple layout with great UX or else it’s of no use because no one wants to render a complete heavy web version into their mobile devices.
