Jailbreaking your iPod touch means exploiting the trapped hardware capability of your iPod touch which is otherwise not available like installing pirated apps, using iPod’s Bluetooth for controlling your computer and a lot other benefits. Just like redsn0w, ih8sn0w has released their version of the Jailbreaking tool named Sn0wbreeze.

Important

Now you can do untethered Jailbreak of your iPhone 3G/3Gs running latest firmware 3.1.3 with "Spirit".

Step by Step iPhone and iPod Touch (All models) Firmware 3.1.3 Jailbreak Guide Using Spirit

Sn0wbreeze is comparatively more complex then redsn0w but comes with some extensive options. Here’s a detailed guide on Jailbreaking your iPod touch 1G or 2G (non MC) with sn0wbreeze.

First, let’s answer some questions you will ask right away:

Sn0wbreeze Jailbreaks which devices?

  • iPhone 2G
  • iPhone 3G
  • iPhone 3GS ( old bootrom and non MC )
  • iPod Touch 1G
  • iPod Touch 2G ( non MC )

How do you check if your iPod touch is MC?

Open your iPod. Go to Settings –> General –> About. If your Model number starts with MC then you won’t be able to jailbreak your iPod touch using sn0wbreeze or any other jailbreaking tool for that matter.

Make sure you:

a) Have the latest version of iTunes installed. If not then Download and install iTunes from here.

b) You should have .NET framework 3.5. If you don’t have it then get it from here.

c) Windows XP, Vista or 7 (32 or 64 bit)

d) If you haven’t updated your iPod touch firmware to 3.1.2 then you can do so by connecting your iPod touch to your computers and iTunes will prompt you for updating to 3.1.2

Now lets move to the steps:

1)

Download Sn0wbreeze Lite from here (This is an alternate download link since ih8sn0w pulled the release from their page)

2)

Install and run Sn0wbreeze. You will see a notification telling that the Expert Mode is not working. Ignore it and click OK

3)

The main window will look something like this:image

Click the Next button on the bottom right and then click the Simple Mode:image

4)

Now on the next screen you need to create your custom IPSW image for which you’ll need your current firmware. First locate and copy your current firmware 3.1.2 IPSW file on your desktop. IPSW can be found at:
C:\Users\{your windows user name}\ AppData\ Roaming\ Apple Computer \ iTunes \ iPod Software Updates
image

Now you have to Browse your IPSW file which you copied to your desktop:image

Then click Next button and it will start processing.
image

Once the processing is done, it verifies your IPSW file. Once verified, click on the Next button.
image

Now click on the Start button and it will start making a custom IPSW
image

It takes a little while for sn0wbreeze to prepare the custom IPSW
image

Now your custom IPSW is made.,

Your custom IPSW is prepared!

5)

Now all you need is restore your iPod touch with the custom built IPSW. Connect your iPod to computer and open iTunes. Press Shift and then click Restore. iTunes will ask you for the location of your custom IPSW file. Specify the file you just created which in my case is located on Desktop since the source IPSW was also copied to Desktop.

Specify the custom IPSW file and alas your iPod touch is now Jailbroken!

If you are experiencing any problems or something goes wrong then simply repeat the process. If you want to go back to your previous settings (non jailbreak) then simply connect iPod touch and click Restore button on iTunes and it will bring back the old 3.1.2 firmware.

You may post your specific problems on here and I’ll try to look for the fixes.

Special thanks to Imran Husain of iThinkDiff for providing with sn0wbreeze since ih8sn0w pulled it off their page.
