The infamous Dev-team has released the updated version PwnageTool 3.1.5 to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3 for iPhone 1G, 2G and 3G and iPhone 3Gs with early bootrom with with baseband 04.26.08 (iPhone 3Gs users with latest bootrom have been warned not to update to the new OS 3.1.3 or else they will be tied back to Apple without any luck at least for the coming days if not weeks).

The PwnageTool 3.1.5 works for only these models according to the dev-team:

  • iPhone 2G
  • iPhone 3G
  • iPhone 3Gs old bootrom with baseband 04.26.08
  • iPod touch 1G
  • iPod touch 2G (non MC model and should also be pre jailbroken)

Can Windows Users Jailbreak With PwnageTool 3.1.5?

No. But you can:
Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3 with redsn0w 0.9.4 OR sn0wbreeze v1.4 OR ultrasn0w

So let’s get started with this really simple tutorial.

What Do You Need?

  • Download and install the latest iTunes 9.0.3 for Mac
  • Download PwnageTool 3.1.5

Procedure:

Step 1)
Plug in your iPhone, start iTunes and backup all your contacts, music, files etc. iTunes does that automatically when syncing.

Step 2)
Run PwnageTool and select your iPhone (iPhone 2G in this case)

Step 3)
PwnageTool will now search for the latest OS 3.1.3 on your Mac and if you have not downloaded it then download it from here. If it cannot find the OS then it will ask you to browse to it. It is best to place the downloaded OS 3.1.3 on your desktop.

Step 4)
It will prompt you to continue with creating the custom IPSW. Click “Yes”. It will also ask if you activate your iPhone contract from iTunes. Click “No”:

Step 5)
PwnageTool will now create your custom IPSW so sit back and relax:

After it is done with making the custom IPSW. It will pop up two more windows asking whether your iPhone has been Pwned before? Click “No”

Step 6:
Now connect your iPhone to Mac and then click “Next” and then click the DFU button on the top panel to put your iPhone in DFU (recovery) mode:

Final Step:
Now all you need to do is open iTunes. It will prompt you with the message that “Your iPhone is in Recovery mode” and will ask you to restore it. All you have to do is specify the location of the jailbroken custom IPSW you just made and then wait till it restores your iPhone with the custom IPSW.

This is it! If everything went right then you have successfully jailbroken your iPhone with the updated OS 3.1.3!
