How To Fix Prototype’s "could not find xaudio2" Error on Windows 7 and Vista

Many gamers are really annoyed of an error that appears when they run Prototype. It says “could not find xaudio2” and game runs without sound. Today, when I tried to play Prototype for the first time on my PC, I came across with this error and after some ‘hit and trail’ & ‘Googling’, I have found some fixes that worked for me. Here are the fixes that may work for you:

1: Update DirectX

Windows update will not help. You need to download DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer to update your Direct X.

2: Decrease Sample Rate and Bit Depth of your sound device

Go to Control Panel > Sound
Select “Play back device” and click properties. Click on Advance
Select 44100 Hz in Default Format and click OK

3: Update your drivers

Make sure you have latest audio and video drivers.

4: Modem Audio devices

If any, disable modem audio devices in the device manager.

5: Service Pack 2 for Vista

If you are using Windows Vista, Install Service Pack 2 if you haven’t.

Hey, i also have a sound issue, but not a common one, none of the ones Above ^^^^^^^^^^, All my sounds are perfect , but the scenes are working slightly, but when alex mercer talks i dont hear it, i know he’s talking-Subtitles, and i also dont hear anything when i go into the consumption movies apart from the music, please can you make a new post including my problem or post a fix, thank you very much. If you can ,(i am noob with Windows 7) make the fix easy to understand. thank you.

Hey, i updated to newest direct x_aug 2009, and i got service pack 2. But still aint work,my sound speakers are realtek high definition audio, what do i do! ;pls help ;(

Hey, i bought prototype online its arrived but wen i click play a square comes up and say Prototype has stopped working nd dan it ses close programe or look online for solution and dan i look online and dan it jst closes nw i wna get da answer i have tried all da tings dat u guys have given to me but it jst dsnt seem to wna work.......................... :'(

disply driver? well my graphic card is S3 Graphics Chrome 430 ULP, processor 2.4gb dual core, ram 4gb, i try the directX d but still same problem

@Christopher Have you tried upgradating your display driver and DirectX? ...also tell me specs of your PC

erm, well my problem is abit different can you help me out? everything run smoothly untill i press start new game, create slot then when it start loading right the program just hang, i'm using window vista and i hav the service pack2 already, the messege just came out 'debug' or 'close program'.

i need some help here, i downloaded the game and some how its saying "could not find XAudio2."
