iPad 2 is (rumored) to be released in the first quarter of 2011. Apple has so far sold 16 million iPad units since it’s launch and it controls around 70% of the tablet PC market right now. Needless to say, iPad is a huge hit (in a positive way for Apple and negative way for Microsoft). Out of these 16 million iPad units sold, about 10.5 million units are iPad 3G models which proves that users want internet connectivity all the time and connectivity should not be tied to the availability of the Wi-Fi network.

So if rumors are to be believed, DigiTimes has reported that keeping in view this huge demand, Apple will roll out a combination of 3 models for iPad 2 with the combination of the following options for internet connectivity:

  • iPad 2 with Wi-Fi (They already have it)
  • iPad 2 with UMTS
  • iPad 2 with CDMA

This means wider availability of internet and an enhanced user experience. Other then enhanced connectivity options for iPad 2, Apple is also add in enhanced anti-smudge and anti-reflective support in the iPad 2 display. Are they also going to chip in Retina Display for iPad 2?

Some more stats: Apple still has around 2-3 million iPad units in inventory which have to be sold before iPad 2 is launched. This time can be estimated to be around 2 to 2.5 months at the best which further confirms iPad 2’s launch in March 2011. Apple is planning to sell 40 million iPad units in the coming year!(via DigiTimes)
