Microsoft’s Software + Services website is displaying a video that explains how Software + Services model of Microsoft is going to change the web and ease our lives. Unlike Google and many others, Microsoft thinks that computer’s own power should be fully utilized to process data and load a rich interface instead of streaming the entire visual contents form server every time whereas data should only be synchronized from the cloud that simulates the software installed on the device. I have found this video very interesting and visionary, at first glance it seems to be like just another imaginary vision but if judged deeply, it explains the possible concept of web 3.0. Watch the video below:

Video actually explains the concept of ubiquitous web and many other amazing stuff that world needs. What is ubiquitous web? …also called ubiquitous computing that touches on a wide range of research topics, including distributed computing, mobile computing, sensor networks, human-computer interaction, and artificial intelligence.

Ubiquitous web isn’t buzz word that Microsoft invented but it’s a thing W3C is predicting for future of web. The word ubiquity means “present everywhere simultaneously”. It is a concept of complete absence of boundaries put by geo locations.

According to W3C:

“Ubiquitous computing represents a powerful shift in computation, where people live, work, and play in a seamlessly interweaving computing environment. Ubiquitous computing postulates a world where people are surrounded by computing devices and a computing infrastructure that supports us in everything we do.”

The core concept is about a medium and possible inexpensive environment to program and connect all common in daily life devices. Such environment is distributable and scalable anytime having generally common and distinct endpoints.

For example your mobile phone, camera, computer, blood pressure monitoring device and such other devices are connected together and synchronizing data to a cloud service in real-time.

Yes this is already possible but developers need ONE place to program all this. The possibility today for such a system has a lot of boundaries between hardware and software. Microsoft has a vision to dissolve these boundaries with http://www.programmerfish.com/category/windows-azure-microsoft/’ target=’_blank’>Azure Data Services. The Live Mesh API (current in CTP) and other services integrated with http://www.programmerfish.com/category/windows-azure-microsoft/’ target=’_blank’>Azure Data Services are being considered as one of the best technology innovations in history as Live Mesh is declared to be Best Technology Innovation/Achievement by second annual Crunchies.%tags So this makes us think that why Live Mesh is being considered as Best Technology Innovation? the reason is Live Mesh with http://www.programmerfish.com/category/windows-azure-microsoft/’ target=’_blank’>Azure Data Services is going to enable such an environment that will dissolve major boundaries in technology and will make ubiquitous web a possibility. And Microsoft calls it a “Mesh”.

I would like to illustrate some parts of the video in my own vision:

%tags
A business will no longer need to own the big iron hardware to host it’s services. They will just need to get it programmed and then deploy it easily in the Mesh.

%tags Everyone in the Mesh using your services is known to you. You can see them anywhere

%tags%tags
When you think you need more power to handle people using the services in your mesh, visual Cloud Server Provisioning can happen anytime anywhere.

After all, this Mesh sounds big to me and I am really excited to see it in action in my life. if you are interested, you can see List of ubiquitous computing research center here
