Since the entrance of the white horse (of course Google Chrome), browser wars have been intensified especially for Mozilla which might have to do away with all the revenue it was generating with its search partnership with Google.
Now the focus is on Speed and this is exactly what Google exploited by releasing its bare-bone browser, the Google Chrome. But Chrome is so far no comparison with Firefox given it’s advanced features and flexibility but users want speed and Chrome is giving them that.
But you know what? Firefox can also be optimized to significantly increase its speed. Here is the step by step guide:
Step 1: Opening Firefox Configuration Settings
Open Firefox and type in about:config in the URL bar and hit enter. It might show this warning message. Uncheck it and proceed. ![]()
Step 2: Changing the Settings to Increase Speed
You have to change the following configuration values by double-clicking. Boolean (True/False) will toggle on double-clicking.
Since it’s a really long list of variables, you can filter them to change only the ones listed below
CONFGURATION NEW VALUE
network.http.max-connections
48
network.http.max-connections-per-server
16
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy
8
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server
4
network.http.pipelining
TRUE
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
100
network.http.proxy.pipelining
TRUE
Step 3: Add a new variable
Right click anywhere on the configuration page and click New –> Integer and add a variable nglayout.initialpaint.delay and set it’s value 0
You’re done!
These new settings will increase speed by around 40-45%
