Today we have possibly millions of active bloggers around this global village of ours. Where do you stand? Creating blogs and publishing content is not all about blogging rather it is much more than that.

When it comes to SEO (Search Engine Optimization), you really need to optimize your blog properly to get a high rank in Search engines which will bring huge amount of traffic to your blog. So, more traffic you get more revenue you earn or more sales you make completely depends on what are you blogging about and what makes profit for you. So here’s a quick starter for those who still have no idea how to SEO their blogs.

1) Naming of blog:

Before buying any domain for your blog, you must ensure that you name it properly. Wondering? Well, using keyword/s in your domain name is the first and foremost on page SEO tip which you should always follow.

For example:- If your blog falls under category of shopping then and if “Shopping” is one of your top keyword or a part of other keyword phrase then using Shopping in your domain will definitely work out. It’s not mandatory but it is highly recommended.

2) Keyword research:

Keyword research is also a substantial factor which you should cogitate while choosing the right keyword for your blog. Choose some decent keywords which have good search volume and average SEO competition to rank faster.

3) Meta tags:

Meta Tags is the information stored inside the Head of your blog which is not visible to external human visitors but are easily accessible by Search engine bots. Whenever a Search bot crawls your webpage, it get detailed information about your blog and indexes your webpage accordingly in its database. Meta tags helps much when it comes to Google but you should use it for other search engines. Meta tags consists of different entities and they are title of your blog, description, keywords and the coding is simple like the one below. When any search Engine indexes your blog they use meta tag information and display them as your webpage information on search results.

  1. Title: Write a short title for your page and that title should not be more than 3-9 words maximum 60-80 characters. You should always use the primary keyword in your title.
  2. Meta description: Writ a good and short description about your web page and try to use some of your prime keyword in Meta description. This really helps in SEO. My personal suggestion will be that you should limit your description within 420 characters.
  3. Meta keyword: You should always by the rules of Search engines and that too especially for Google. Don’t use more than 20 keywords in your Meta keyword tags and excessive use of keywords will your site banned for keyword stuffing.
  4. Heading tags: Heading tags are generally HTML heading tags which contain few words and used to lay emphasis on what the webpage is all about to your visitors and search engines. There are many header tags H1, H2, H3, H4.  You should use them properly to get better rankings. Many SEO professional will agree that Header tag helps SEO and many will oppose that, so I would simple suggest you to stick to the basic and use it in an ethical way.

 

4) Robot Text:

Although it is very important aspect of SEO but literally many webmasters and bloggers ignore it, forgetting its importance. Whenever any Search bot crawls your website, first it searches for a file called robot.txt and the location of this special file for any website is :

http://www.yoursite.com/robots.txt

This robot.txt file tells the crawler which pages of your site to index and which pages not to be followed. It is a simple text file but is very important.

5) Avoid Flash and limit your Webpage size:

Flash is something which can give your site/blog stunning and catchy look with lots of creative and amazing animations but you should avoid it as Search Engines don’t have any such algorithms to read Flash and so it wont help in SEO at all.

First and foremost note you should consider is your site’s size. Using flash will increase your website’s size and it will certainly not help you in SEO. With Google’s new Search engine algorithm “caffeine” Site’s with small size and least load time will get better rankings in search results. This algorithm will be applied by Google from January 2010 at all datacenters of Google. S to rank higher you should limit your website’s size within 50KB. It is such a factor which you cant ignore.

6) XML Sitemaps:

As the name suggests sitemaps are maps or an overlay of your site’s internal structure for navigation between different pages of your website. It helps the Search engine crawler to index all probable pages of your site with the help of Sitemaps. It is extremely important for your site’s visitor and also for Search engine crawlers.
