If you have Nokia N900 running Nokia’s Maemo5 platform then you are one of those lucky guys able to experience the first ever Firefox for Mobile browser. Mozilla announced earlier today the release of its first mobile candidate browser for Nokia N900 which is equipped - unlike any other mobile browsers - with Add-Ons like the ones you now enjoy on your desktops and laptops. Add-Ons are a major attraction for using Firefox besides it’s seamless design and robustness and security. Welcome the world’s favorite web browser now on mobiles!

Here is the official feature list announced:

  • Awesome Bar – Go to your favorite sites in just a couple of keystrokes with intelligent and personalized searching
  • Weave Sync – Sync your Firefox tabs, history, bookmarks and passwords between your desktop and mobile device for a seamless browsing experience
  • Add-ons – Customize your Firefox by adding small pieces of functionality, like games and news readers, that help make the mobile Web browser your own
  • Location-Aware Browsing – Get maps and information relevant to your location
  • Tabbed browsing – View open tabs as thumbnails to easily identify and select the Web page you’d like to go to next
  • Safe Browsing – Get an Instant Web Site ID and easily access and edit security settings
  • Available in more than 30 languages and counting

Currently, there are 40 Firefox Mobile Add-Ons available but they will definitely increase as more developers translate their web versions into mobile versions.

We earlier announced that Mozilla is also planning to release Firefox for Android platform codenamed Fennec.

Here are some pictures of how Firefox for mobile looks like. Notice the vertical control bars that slide from left and right by swiping your finger on the Nokia N900 touch screen.
